The Story

When I first moved to Los Angeles some 40 years ago, I was drawn to the movie industry. I loved getting lost in storytelling.Over the years I have tried my hand at screenplay writing but got sidetracked with my world of Shabby Chic. It was never planned but clearly my destiny. Even so, the art of story telling has stayed close to my heart.

While I have never written a Hollywood movie, I have always folded stories into my design work.

Often inspired by movies or my own stream of consciousness.

Whether I'm designing my books or my photo shoots there is always a running commentary in my mind. It may not always translate literally but I do believe that it's what gives my world soul and substance.

Every shade of color, pleat or ruffle... every placement I include in a photograph is considered and part of my storytelling. Sometimes I want to capture a romantic moment, sometimes soulful, sometimes evidence of what was, so long to be sure to embrace and communicate meaningful beauty.

Your story is part of all of your fans’ stories, including myself. I won’t ever forget meeting Adriana at a flea market in Paris a few weeks before she collaborated with you on My Floral Affair. We walked along the Seine, finding treasures to bring back to the states and talked about how much of an impact your world of Shabby Chic has had on us. Thank you for sharing your gift of storytelling through your creations.
