CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Slipcover Care
All slipcovers are custom made for each specific piece of furniture and may have slight variances. We caution our customers with improper cleaning, treating or neglect of their coverings. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® is not responsible for color fading and recommends keeping slipcovers out of direct sunlight. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® does not recommend the use of fabric protection agents or chemicals and is not responsible for stains, slub, pilling, lint/dust and/or damage including but not limited to: acids, solvents, dyes, inks, paint, improper cleaning, corrosive chemicals, bodily fluids, etc. With our machine washable fabrics, we recommend that you wash in cold water, gentle cycle and tumble dry low heat. Large capacity machines are suggested. Use non-chlorine bleach when needed. It is also recommended that you clean the complete ensemble to avoid any color variances.
Do not wash ticking covers. See below for additional cushion care.
Cushion Care
Professional cleaning is recommended for the physical cushions. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® cushions made of down/feather fill or a combination thereof include a ticking cover made of 100% cotton. The ticking cover slips over the cushion (similar to a pillow protector), and underneath the slipcover. Ticking covers protect from feathers poking through as well as potential spills or stains to the cushions. Ticking covers are not intended to be washed and are considered part of the frame/inserts. Ticking covers will shrink if laundered.
Frame / Upholstery Care
All slipcovered furniture is fully upholstered in a 100% cotton duck fabric. Professional cleaning is recommended. We also recommend professional cleaning for all upholstered furniture.
Leather
For regular care and cleaning, dust periodically with a dry cloth to remove residual dust and prevent dirt from building up. No harsh cleaners or solvents should ever be used on the leather, as they could abrade the finish or top coat off the article. For stubborn stains and spills, a lightly damp cloth with warm water should be blotted on the stain to lift and remove it. If this does not work, a mild soap and water solution should be mixed and then blotted to release the stain, then blot again with a dry cloth. This should never be done heavily or in a scrubbing motion.
VINTAGE CARE
Furniture
Every piece of well-loved vintage furniture is hand-selected for its timeworn beauty and unique imperfections. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® reinforces construction when needed for integrity and quality that will ensure a long and beautiful life. Because of the natural character flaws we recommend cleaning with warm water and mild dish soap.
China / Glassware
Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® does not recommend putting vintage china in the dishwasher or microwave. Handwash only using warm water and mild dishwashing soap.
Collection Furniture
Due to the natural characteristics of wood, knots, cracks, holes, and finish variations are to be expected and embraced. Wood is a natural material and as such it breathes and responds to changes in humidity and temperature. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® does not assume responsibility for these naturally occurring changes and the customer is responsible for proper care. Wipe clean with damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents. Many pieces are unfinished and thus stains will naturally occur. If the customer chooses to add a finish, Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® is not responsible for a change in color, texture, smell, or durability.
Bedding
Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® recommends that all bedding pieces be inspected and be washed before use. Washed bedding will not be accepted for a return, regardless of the condition received. Our white whisper collection is generously cut and two to three washes are recommended to allow for linen natural fluctuation to settle. Machine wash cold, normal cycle, and tumble dry medium to low heat. Use non-chlorine bleach when needed and only color safe detergents. It is also recommended that you clean the complete ensemble to avoid any color variances. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® is not responsible for damage or fading due to washing or exposure to sunlight. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® recommends keeping bedding out of direct sunlight. Rachel Ashwell® Shabby Chic® is not responsible for stains, slub, pilling, lint/dust and/or damage including but not limited to: lotions, creams, acids, solvents, dyes, inks, paint, improper cleaning, corrosive chemicals, bodily fluids, etc.
Inserts
For our bedding inserts (pillows, duvets, featherbeds, etc.), we recommend professional cleaning. These products are made with down and/or feather, and professionally cleaning will help ensure a longer lifetime and quality.
